01 WHAT WE DREW

“What We Drew” is the latest studio album by Korean-American music artist Yaeji. Inspired by the bubbly and fluffy sounds of the album, I recreated the vinyl album art with a handmade approach, experimenting with expanding foam as an art material. The blob-like sculpture represents the core meaning of the album – embracing both the beauty and the ugliness in family relationships and friendships.

PROCESS

- After getting the materials that was needed, I set up a station in my garage and started test-using the expanding foam.

- After a bit of practising, I started creating the sculpture by adding layers and waiting for them to expand to a decent size before starting a new one. I also spray painted each layer as I put on each layer so that the colours would be more spread out.

- I then waited for it to expand more and dry overnight before applying more spray paint on top for finishing touches.
